Whew! What a week! Sometimes I wonder how I fit it all in when I taught half day kindergarten. I know I didn't get to spend as much time reviewing alphabet letters. Here is some of the letter work we've been working on the last 2 weeks.
Our Letterland character is "Dippy Duck" so we made our own "Dippies"! Aren't they cute?

I love dollar stores. I told the kindies if they did their best work, they could choose two feathers for their duck. These little extras are so motivating, they all wanted feathers!
We also made these cuties...
I love how they look, marching across my newly painted wall. Everyone who walks through my room is always commenting on how bright and happy our classroom looks now.
I also "borrowed" a grow duck from my daughter. We put our duck in a tub of water and watched it grow over the past week. This was our most popular activity! But, I forgot to take a photo of it.

Next up was letter Uu. Mrs. Hyslop has this amazing giant umbrella from Rocky Mountain Rail Tours. I had the kindies close their eyes and Ms. Andrews cue up the CD player to "Singing in the Rain" by Charlotte Diamond. Then in I came, singing and dancing with this gorgeous umbrella (when you spin it it looks like the train is moving). Now I am not the greatest singer or dancer (I have to be brave and sing every day in my job!) so I wasn't sure how this would go. But Mrs. E (our grade 3 teacher) was walking through at the time, commented on how delighted the children's expressions were. They were laughing and smiling as we all tried to crowd under the umbrella.
What starts with U other than umbrella? Underpants of course! If you are 5, you feel delightfully naughty when your teacher reads you a story like this...

Oh and they loved this picture from the book...
Then Mrs. Hyslop shared the song, "Sing in the Spring," by Charlotte Diamond with us. There is a verse in it about a giraffe with ants in his underpants. So Mrs. Hyslop shared this fun activity with us...
Don't you just love the flaming underpants?
I'm so lucky to have a job where I get to laugh every day!
We've been busy learning about shapes in Math and on our vocabulary study too! I'm hoping to post more later this week...
A few dates to remember (parent drivers needed)
May 30th - we're going to visit Dylan's Dad at the firehall!
June 4th - we're going to learn about Dinosaurs at the Big Little Science Centre!
Enjoy your Sunday!
