Now that it is January we will be focusing more on writing and putting together sounds to make words. In kindergarten the focus is on recognizing and writing the sounds we know. Any attempts to put meaning onto paper is to be celebrated, whether it is through drawings, letters or words. Spelling words "the school way" may be talked about in class, but is not emphasized.
I love using our morning Chit Chat messages to work on recognizing letters, sounds and seeing patterns in words. The one below incorporates both science and math in our lesson.
And we let it melt.
That afternoon we checked out our yummy clean snow that was partially melted (and not quite so clean and yummy looking anymore) and gave the children the opportunity to change their answers. Well this group was so funny! As you can see by the pink numbers they don't mind the dirty snow a bit.
So we let it melt until the next day. Trust me, it wasn't pretty.
So we have a new behaviour chart in our classroom...
Sometimes I let the "blues" wash their hands or line up first. Sometimes I give stickers. Sometimes I give everybody a sticker because I like spending my days with them.
